Doing a New Thing? Know You Are the Dream

You Are The Dream

As we approach the second month of a brand new year,  we have heard the messages of hope motivating us all to proceed focused and determined down the path of 2011.    Many of our spiritual leaders called attention to the newness of the season.  The First Sunday of the year  prompts millions of Christians, present company included, to remember God’s ability to “Do a New Thing,” in our lives.  The idea of refreshing, reorganizing and reestablishing the life we live with God, is the nourishment our spiritual minds need to embrace the subject of new beginnings .

The last week of the first month of the new year presents a resolve of our most important topic finally, the economy.   Bernanke informed the Senate Budget Committee today, “it could take four to five more years for the job market to normalize fully,” Read more .   This news prompts a sigh of relief, but not so fast!  What does this really mean for the people who are unemployed and have been  for a while?  What position does that place us in while waiting on the return of jobs?

As I  watched CNN a few weeks ago they reported on a unique school for homeless children.  One of the statements made by a youth was, “I am glad I can get a good education to help me live a better life.”   Wow, I used to believe the same way until a bit ago, when I realized, I am  now subtlely categorized in a displaced group of well-educated unemployed citizens.

A categorized group who have done the right things (or so we thought) and strived for a higher education to gain hold of that American Dream.  As the rapper “Biggie Smalls” so profoundly stated, “it was all a dream.”   America wake up, the dream you are attempting to create lies within you.

Are you doing a new thing? If so, while you are planning remember  “You Are the Dream.”   I have observed, over the past ten years, individuals becoming millionaires with little to no college education, but what they coupled with what they did know was innovation.  Okay, hold up!  I know all of you who know me are saying what, she sure is changing her tune.

No, I am not.  I am still a lifetime advocate for higher education.  But instead of making the degree the final step in acquiring a successful career; I encourage you to develop a plan of success for yourself which encompasses the execution of passion associated to your degree.  Meaning, what can you do with a degree to bring value to your environment, society, country and ultimately the world with that education, and not to simply land a good job, they are scarce and short lived these days.

The new formula for success in this 21st century is “Education and Innovation,” no longer is the formula education alone.   YOU are the dream!

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Christene
