Apply the Word its the Color of Life

Romans 7:15 “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”

Apply the Word

The above mentioned verse was written by Paul, who was initially a persecutor of Christian faith, but later on accepted Jesus Christ as his only Lord and Savior. Not only did he choose to follow Christ himself, but also played a very crucial role in drawing many lost souls to God through Christ. We can clearly see Paul’s commitment to Christ as a believer and see how strong his faith was after being saved by Jesus. However, despite his commitment and love for Christ and the gospel, despite the renewal of his heart and mind, he could not help but struggle with the desires of the flesh (worldly desires).

He goes on to say that what he wanted to do the most, he could not do, but what he hated the most, he ended up doing only that. He desired to do something, but ended up doing something completely different. Perhaps, that is our story of struggle today as a human! And this was the very reason that God had to send His only son to save us because we could not save ourselves by our good works or righteousness. Our righteous acts can do us no good; they are only like “filthy rags”. Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags”

However, we still have hope! Jesus conquered every sin, every addiction, and every disease on the cross by His precious life-giving blood. When we put our trust in Him, God forgets our sins and condemns us no more, because we are declared righteous through Jesus Christ. But our responsibility does not end there. As a Christian, our lives should only be directed to reveal God’s goodness, peace and love, bringing glory to Him. Every believer has the Holy Spirit, to guide them and convict them of any wrong doings. We must ask God to clear our consciences and help us know the difference between the good and the bad. Any thing which is not in line with God’s word is not His will. If the word says, we are not to marry a non-Christian; we must stop looking for a non-Christian spouse.

James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says”

We must not only read the Bible, but practice what it says. If God asks us to forgive others, we must do that as an order, not as a favour. His commandments should form the foundation of our lives. If you have sinned, disobeyed God, hurt Him, don’t worry. Jesus has already taken your punishment on Him, just confess your sins to God and take responsibility for them. Don’t blame others, just seek God’s forgiveness. He will forgive you, guide you and help you, because He is good and loves His children.

May God bless you all abundantly, in Jesus name, Amen!

  1. Thank you GospelCntro, this is an area I struggle with. It is often difficult for me to apply the standards of the bible to my daily life. I don’t want to walk in a grey area, but some things are clear where others are not to me. Please pray for me. Carolyn.
