2009 was the year everyone experienced the traumatic news of Michael Jackson’s death. Don Cornelius in the same year makes the morbid statement of wanting to be done with the proceedings of his divorce and prepare to die.
Now today the second month of 2012 we are two days past the horrific news of Don Cornelius dying from a self-inflicted gun wound. We can only reflect on this as the onlookers we are. Yet, we often find ourselves shaking our heads because it absolutely makes no sense to us, why someone would want to take their life. The Lord gives us the answer to it in so many places in the scriptures. Firstly, as Christians we recognize that our life is not our own. It is this initial reality we must face as sinners saved by grace. Jesus has paid the price for the sinful lives we lived prior to accepting Him as our personal Lord and Savior.
Until this day it never dawned on me that this step of acceptance is filled with the power of life in and of itself. Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, allows us to understand that no matter how low we feel or take our lives He has already paid the price. We are protected by the knowledge of the blood that was already shed for us. There is hope in the retribution we have in Christ, there is life for us because He has already conquered death. The mindset of a person with suicidal tendencies has neglected to grab hold of the true purpose and passion behind the symbolism of Jesus dying on the cross for us and rising to show us we are free.
If we are left to our own sinful nature our expected end is death. If we do not accept the anointing of hope that believing in Jesus Christ gives us, we too would be left to our own thoughts to guide a miserable existence without Christ. If we do not set our sights on things above according to God’s instructions, but instead lift the worthless ideas, philosophies and trinkets of this world to an iconic level in our term of success, and the end there of is destruction. Everyone claims to know the adversaries goal is to kill, steal and destroy, but we do not recognize the lure he presents to lead us down the path of a failed existence and end.
The testament of a man’s life is left with a horrible blood stain here. What A JIP! The famous screeching sound of the words “Soul Train” gained a passenger who found it did not profit to gain the world and loose their…..SOUL (pun absolutely intended)! There is nothing worse than to pay for something which is already paid and you cannot get a refund! If your experience of this was anything like mine it was a horrible feeling of waste and injustice especially when there was nothing you could do to get your money returned. Why are we so willing to dismiss who we know we are, for who others say we need to be? The distortion of your identity is one of the oldest tricks in the book of the adversary. The desperation of a person who believes they are worthless, tired and defeated is one who does not have a deep enough root in the extent of the LOVE of Christ.
What, if anything, if lost today could point you down the dark path of destroying yourself? If you could fix your mouth to actually answer the question with some-THING! It is only a THING and the void you are feeling inside is reserved for the love God is and sent to SAVE US!
If you are going through and feeling hopeless today, you do not have to go through by yourself. The key to that statement is YOU CAN GET THROUGH IT !
REACH OUT! GET OUT OF THE CORNER! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! AND YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE GOING THROUGH IT
WE PROMISE YOU!
Always bringing you the GOOD NEWS for a Life Centered in Christ!
DO NOT LET GO, WE NEED YOU TO SURVIVE
YOU ARE LOVED BLESSED AND ANOINTED ALL WE NEED TO DO IS GET UP AND WALK IN IT!
Christene, The Servant
