Our choices alter the world……Civil Union Support!?

Civil Union Supported by Obama

On May 9, 2012 Barack Obama stated his final stance in support of the fair disbursement of identical civil privileges’ experienced by heterosexual married couples among gay married couples. Now that we know where he stands on this issue where do you stand on the issue? There are various takes on this subject a) those who are totally against his decision and are seriously rethinking their support; b) those who are appalled and now question his Christian and American status; c) those who really are excited about the support for their families; d) and others are still attempting to process what this will mean from a broader perspective.

However, we feel personally about this political decision the fact remains that a political decision was made. The question we are left with is does the political decision dictate the overall opinion of the President of the United States? Is this a place where state and church are separated? Many I hear say absolutely not. The term ‘civil-unions,’ is implied to replace the term same-sex unions watering down a confusing pot of stew, metaphorically speaking.

One biblical term of this union is identified as ‘un-natural affections,’ and there is now no getting around the subject matter. The outrage witnessed from the Christian community is echoing across the world! I have but one thing to say to these concerned Christians……WHAT THE WHAT?! Are you sure you disagree with the President or is he really only supporting what the Churches have supported for generations?! Are we standing thoroughly on one side or are we sacrificing the sanctity of God’s determinations for great entertainment or to support a gender oppressive doctrinal tradition?

Please do not pick at the mote of one’s leadership when there is a pole running through your leadership style (Luke 6:41-42). The references are plentiful and laid out in the 66 chapters we study, preach and proclaim as our guide of God’s will and His way. During the many conversations conducted around the subject matter we seemingly agree on one thing, the church is looking at a sin issue. We do not look to the President’s opinion for how we treat other sinners what is making this topic so different. According to the scriptures all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23), and it is by grace that any of us will make it to heaven. The idea of ranking which sin is worse is yet another result of the hypocritical dysfunction of God’s grace and witness when funneled through the mindsets of men and women.

In Proverbs 6: 16-19 it lists the seven things the Lord hates, (really six as lying is referenced twice) 1) a proud look; 2) a lying tongue; 3) hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that devises wicked plans; 5) feet that are swift in running to evil, 6) a false witness who speaks lies, and 7) one who sows discord among brethren. We are all born in sin, many of those who participate in the ‘un-natural affections’ claim to be born this way. This statement bares consideration as an intrinsic issue of sin. According to the scriptures in Psalms 51:5 we were all born into sin and therefore they are correct in how far back the memory of their emotions go in catering to this lifestyle. Sin is sin and a spiritual remedy is necessary, a renewing of the mind (Romans 12:1-2) is necessary for the whoremonger, liar, murderer, drunkard and the homosexual alike. With that said, Christians where is your passionate witness, instead of your pandemonium to the lost?
